Hi, my name is Myles Crockem. I recently graduated from LSU with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.
Growing up, I always said I wanted to be a video game designer. At the time, I didn’t know anything about how games were made—I just had ideas for how I could make the ones I loved even better. In middle school, I joined a summer program where I got to code for the very first time. I really enjoyed it, and it planted the idea of pursuing programming in the future.
By high school, I knew it was time to start thinking seriously about a career. I had always been drawn to computers and technology, and I remembered how much I enjoyed coding during that summer program. I decided to major in computer science because it gave me a broad foundation in coding without locking me into a single path too early.
In college, I began learning to build more complex systems, and coding started to feel natural. I loved the problem-solving aspect and the excitement of understanding tools that once felt like a black box. Exploring programming, operating systems, and AI opened my eyes to a way of seeing the world that only comes with this field. I realized that by simply sharpening my skills, I could build almost anything.
Before graduation, I secured my second internship and felt on top of the world. Through both of my internships I had an incredible experience where I got to truly understand what it means to work as a software engineer.
I know this is what I'm mean't to do. I love coding, problem-solving, improving my skills, and building things that work and work well. Now, I’m excited to take the next step and find my first full-time role as a software engineer.
Thank you for reading.
